Each year, the company Simplot holds a poster design competition for the Simplot Games, a major high school track and field event. The advanced graphic design students compete with each other to win a cash reward and the use of their poster to advertise the Simplot Games.
The first poster was made to depict a dream becoming reality with the use of the wireframe materializing into a colored and detailed person. One challenge was conveying action and motion in the poster which was solved by depicting a runner from a dynamic angle and designing the track lane as if it were exploding in her wake. My goal with this one was to deviate from the use of photographs while still making a compelling piece.
The second poster was designed to show multiple events and various people competing in the Simplot Games. The use of a runner, a high jumper, and a triple jumper features more than just the conventional running events that come to mind when thinking of a competition like this. The words are colored to be desaturated at first and approaching gold for a progression towards the ultimate goal of winning the gold medal.
