At the end of the 2017 fire season the Bureau of Land Management Launched a few campaigns to bring awareness to wildfires in Idaho caused by shooting. The first campaign was launched by the Twin Falls district to show how much shooting fires had cost the area. The first poster was designed for this. The content highlights the three most costly fires in the district and how to prevent it. I wanted to create something that looked different than most other government material. I decided to to try a painted approach.
The second poster was designed as part of a larger, statewide campaign to educate individuals on how to shoot recreationally in a more responsible manner. Our goal was to avoid any feelings of hostility toward gun owners while distributing important information about gun usage. The slogan "Shoot Responsibly Idaho" came out of that. It was our way of reaching out to gun owners without any negative or probibitory connotations. I designed the Idaho/rifle icon to add memorability to the campaign and to be used with any other material that was part of the campaign.
